Tokio Marine Insurans in Malaysia
Tokio Marines’ presence in Malaysia dates back to 1957 when The Tokio Marine and Fire Insurance Company Limited (TMF) commenced its underwriting business. Our Kuala Lumpur Branch Operation was then established in 1974, with the company growing from strength to strength to become one the major players in the local general insurance market.
Today, Tokio Marine Insurans (Malaysia) Berhad has 19 branches across the country, and remains dedicated to providing innovative and competitive insurance - as we build on our proud heritage with customer focus as our top priority.
Corporate restructuring has strengthened its operations, and positioned itself as one of the country’s major insurance players.
Some of its notable milestones include:
1957 Commenced having underwriting business in Malaysia.
1974 Established its Malaysian Branch Operations
1980 Local incorporation of Tokio Marine & Fire Insurance (M) Sdn. Bhd.
1985 Divestment to local partner in line with New Economic Policy; name changed to United Prime, and Berjaya General.
1999 Acquired Wing On General Insurance Berhad; name changed to Tokio Marine Insurans (Malaysia) Berhad (TMIM). Divested share interest in Berjaya General.
2002 Acquired insurance business of Amanah General Insurance Berhad.
2007 Acquired insurance business of Asia Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad (AIMB).
2008 Increased paid up share capital from RM100 million to RM278 million in preparation for Risk Based Capital Solvency Framework by Bank Negara Malaysia on 1 January 2009.
2009 Acquired insurance business of PanGlobal Insurance Berhad (PGI).
2012 Acquired insurance business, assets and liabilities of MUI Continental Insurance Berhad.
