Mr. Matthias Yao is an independent non-executive Chairman at Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore Ltd. Additionally, he is a member of the Audit Committee.
Currently, he is also the Chairman of Tokio Marine Life Insurance Singapore Ltd. and sits on the board of Agmonton Pte. Ltd. He is also a Trustee of National Trades Union Congress.
Mr. Yao started his career with the Civil Service in 1980 as an Administrative Officer with rotation of postings to Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Community Development and Ministry of Communications and Information. He was elected into Parliament in 1991, and held the position of Senior Parliamentary Secretary before becoming Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence and the Prime Minister’s Office. He was a Deputy Speaker of Parliament before his retirement from public service. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Yao was a Board member with the Housing & Development Board, Deputy Chairman of NTUC Income and Special Adviser to the Board of NTUC Income. After his retirement, Mr. Yao held independent non-executive directorship positions in iFast Corporation Ltd and iFast Financial Pte Ltd.
He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Mr Hiroyuki Hata has extensive and diverse experience across the Property & Casualty industry, specially focusing on large commercial global business and corporate planning.
He started his career in the Marine Hull business (including offshore energy) in Tokio Marine Group, transitioned through to strategic planning and spent the last fifteen years working with the international business, new markets into new and competitive business model. He has more than 30 years of experience in Tokio Marine Group.
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Policy of Management from Keio University, Japan.
Mr Tham Chee Soon is a Chartered Accountant, a Fellow of ISCA. He spent 31 years at Ernst & Young (“EY”) before taking early retirement, after 14 years as an Audit Partner in June 2018 and set up his own practice, iCFO Advisors Pte Ltd. At EY, he was an audit partner responsible for the audits of both listed companies and MNCs, including insurance companies.
He was appointed as independent director of Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore Ltd. on 11 July 2024 and he is also a member of the Audit Committee. He currently also sits on the board of other organisations which include CH Offshore Ltd and Vinfast Auto Ltd.
Mr. Tham Chee Soon holds the qualification of FCPA (Singapore), US CPA (AICPA), CPA Australia, CFA Charterholder and Licensed Insolvency Practitioner.
Mr. Fukaura, with over two decades of experience in the Tokio Marine Group, joined Tokio Marine Asia in April 2024. His expertise spans strategic planning, business development, and corporate management across Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. Most recently, Mr. Fukaura served as the Senior Vice President of Tokio Marine Safety (Thailand) PCL., where he played a key role in formulating comprehensive corporate and commercial underwriting strategies.
In his current role at Tokio Marine Asia, he oversees Corporate & Market Planning, Finance & Investment, Legal & Compliance, Human Resources, and Risk Engineering operations in the region.
