PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia (TMI), in collaboration with PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), conducted an Insurance Literacy event for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Bekasi, Karawang, West Java, and surrounding areas. This initiative is part of TMI's commitment to enhancing the understanding and accessibility of insurance products for MSMEs, aligned with the National Financial Intelligence Movement/GENCARKAN program, Financial Inclusion Month (BIK), and Insurance Day 2024, as initiated by the government.
The participants included dozens of PNM customers from the Bekasi to Karawang areas in West Java and its surroundings. They had the opportunity to engage in an interactive talk show session titled "Smart Finances with PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia - Insurance Protection for MSMEs," which focused on effective initiatives for managing risks through insurance protection, particularly the MSME Partner Insurance product from TMI. During the event, TMI and PNM encouraged MSMEs to safeguard their businesses against various risks by transferring these risks to insurance companies. This initiative aims to provide financial protection for the future, ensuring the sustainability of their businesses.
"To reduce business vulnerability arising from various risks, such as financial challenges, market conditions, operational issues, and extraordinary events like fires or natural disasters, MSMEs should begin considering loss insurance services for effective risk mitigation. This will help ensure that their businesses can continue to operate smoothly," stated Muhammad Ali, Chief Distribution Officer of TMI.
PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) plays a crucial role in empowering MSMEs in Indonesia through various programs aimed at supporting their growth. Currently, PNM, through its Business Capacity Development (PKU) unit, is enhancing MSMEs by focusing on skill improvement, business assistance, and product innovation.
"We are delighted to collaborate with PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia on the insurance literacy program aimed at MSMEs. This partnership is a strategic move to support the empowerment of MSMEs in Indonesia through the PNM Business Capacity Development program, enabling them to manage their businesses effectively and protect their assets through insurance," said Agus Mulyono, Head of the PNM Bekasi Branch.
The Role of MSMEs
MSMEs are the backbone of the Indonesian economy, contributing 60.3% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and providing 97% of jobs. They play a vital role in enhancing people's welfare by offering various types of employment, helping to reduce unemployment rates, and creating opportunities for individuals who may not have access to jobs in the formal sector.
However, many MSMEs have not yet recognized the importance of insurance protection to safeguard their assets from unexpected risks. On this occasion, Djoko Mulyono, Head of the Product Development Department at PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia, emphasized that insurance can offer peace of mind and financial protection for business owners.
During this event, PT Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia also introduced a specialized insurance product for MSMEs called UKM Partner Insurance. This product offers flexible coverage options with an insurance package that can be tailored to fit the budget and specific type of business. It features affordable premiums that are more competitive than similar products on the market, along with comprehensive coverage that protects against various potential loss risks.
"The main advantage of TMI Partner UKM Insurance is its ability to protect business assets from various loss risks, such as fire, natural disasters, and legal liability. With this protection, we hope that MSME operators can run their businesses with greater peace of mind and focus on their development," explained Djoko.
TMI and PNM hope that insurance literacy activities for MSME protection can be conducted regularly, enabling MSMEs to better understand and utilize insurance products to ensure business continuity and safeguard their financial future.
