What Standard Travel Cancellation Covers
Standard Travel Cancellation under Tokio Marine Explorer reimburses your non‑refundable travel costs only for specific listed events, such as:
- Your death or the death of an immediate family member (within 30 days before departure)
- Your hospitalisation or serious medical condition (within 60 days before departure)
- Strike or natural disasters occur in the trip destination (within 14 days before departure)
- Strike, riot or severe weather causing your carrier to cancel the trip
- Your home becoming uninhabitable due to fire, flood, storm or other similar natural disaster (within 14 days before departure)
If your cancellation reason does not fall within these events, you cannot claim under Standard Travel Cancellation.
What Cancellation for Any Reason (CFAR) Covers
Cancellation for Any Reason (CFAR) takes flexibility to another level. Under the Deluxe Plan, you can claim:
- 75% of eligible flight + accommodation costs
- Up to RM5,000 per policy
- For any reason not listed under standard cancellation benefits
This means the traveller can cancel due to:
- Work commitments
- Family obligations
- Safety concerns
- Change of personal circumstances
- No longer feeling comfortable to travel
These are not eligible for Standard Travel Cancellation benefits, but CFAR can help you recover part of your costs.

- To qualify for a CFAR claim under the Deluxe Plan, you must:
- Cancel more than 48 hours before departure
- Ensure the eligible travel expenses were not paid more than 14 days before buying the policy
- Provide proof of cancellation from the airline or hotel
A Realistic Scenario: “The Last‑Minute Work Crisis"
Scenario:
Anna, a marketing manager in Kuala Lumpur, books a 6‑day holiday to Osaka with non‑refundable airline tickets and a prepaid hotel package. The total cost is RM4,800.
